Air / Road Shipment of 21 tons RUTF in response to famine in South Sudan
FiT provided solution for the import of food supplements to remote areas in South Sudan when air freight suddenly limitations occurred to air freight movements to Juba.
In February 2017 South Sudan officially declared a famine. Relief Organizations subsequently had to get food supplements to remote areas in South Sudan as fast as possible. Care international had planned a shipment of 21 ton of RUTF from Dubai to Juba by air via Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
By the time the exemption process in South Sudan was finalized however, Ethiopian Airlines had stopped operating their 757s to Juba. All other airfreight solutions to Juba e.g. via Nairobi exceeded Care’s budget.
FiT proposed an air/road transit solution via NBO and upon acceptance the shipment was transit cleared in Nairobi and reached Juba with a total transit time of 7 days from DXB to JUB.
